Permissions
Clipper needs a few macOS permissions to work properly:
- Microphone — records your voice during meetings and voice notes. You can revoke this anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
- Screen Recording — captures system audio from meeting apps (audio only, no screen video). Grant in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Notifications — optional alerts when Clipper detects a meeting.
- Calendar — optional, for upcoming events and meeting detection. Enable in Clipper Settings → Connectors.
See the setup guide for step-by-step instructions.
Recording issues
- No audio captured — check that Microphone and Screen Recording permissions are granted. Restart Clipper after granting permissions.
- Meeting not detected — ensure meeting detection is enabled in Settings → Notifications. Calendar integration can improve detection accuracy.
- Transcription slow or stuck — on-device models require Apple Silicon. Ensure AI models are downloaded in Settings → Models.
Data & privacy
Clipper stores all recordings, transcripts, and notes locally on your Mac. AI processing runs on-device — your personal content is not uploaded to any server.
Read our full privacy policy for details on data handling, network usage, and optional integrations.
